Live.Simple.Soap

Live.Simple.
It's not just a bar of soap, it's a way of life.

Starting a small, home-based business is exciting. And terrifying. And overwhelming. And completely all-consuming. Everyone in my family has been amazingly helpful.

My beloved has spent more than 40 hours of his life creating and tweaking a program that I can use to organize orders. If it wasn't for his creation, I would still be taking orders on a scratch piece of paper and clipping it to my monthly calendar on the counter. And hoping for the best!

Our daughter has been turned loose with her camera to take photos of the finished products for the Etsy store.  She's also been scouring the internet for inspiration for new soaps scents, colorants, eye-appeal, and packaging- which she messages me on Facebook from the comfort of her room when I'm in the living room. Ahhh...21st century living at its finest.

Our son has helped with actually making the soap and his job is to cut it once it's ready.  Plus, he's my go-to guy for staying on task. "Mom, don't you have to make soap tonight?" Thanks, son, for nudging me to keep going.

I'm telling you: it's taking a family for me to start my own business.

And I can't imagine it any other way. I've said before, maybe not on this blog, that my family is similar to an amoeba: where one part of us go, the rest come along. Not a bad way to live if you ask me. Our kids are learning about real life. Teamwork. That their ideas count. That their input matters. That their help is wanted. Seriously. I couldn't have gotten this far without them. Add in my beloved's help and I'm over the moon with gratitude, love, and joy.

When you purchase from my small business, or anyone's small business, you really are making a statement. I appreciate each order I've gotten- it's helped me continue to stay home and homeschool our kids. It's helped to show them, in real time, that hard work, commitment, and follow-through matter. It's also bonded us in a way that has made our family stronger. For all of those reasons and so many more: thank you for the support of our small business.
